I'm remodeling a kitchen, and have to move some receptacles. Is there a minimum distance that a gfci and switch must be from the sink? M y plan calls for a switch and gfi within 12 inches of the sink. Is this allowed by code?

Hi rrkkwood, Yes you have to be not farther 2 feet from the edge of the sink, then every four feet along the counter top. So basically its 2' from any break in the counter ie. stove, sink, refrigerator. All recps above the counter in the kitchen must be GFCI protected. You must also have two 20 amp circuits along the counter top/s. You dont to put the refrigerator receptacle on GFCI as long as the recp. is not readily accessible. Local inspectors might require a single (dedicated) plug.... Happy wiring!!

wireman, rrkkwood asked for a minimum distance and you gave a maximum distance. Although your answer was correct, you avoided the question.

The answer to the "is there a minimum" question is "no."
