protect cable running around doorway

I am going to run some electric cable around an existing doorway (hidden behind the drywall and in the studs).
What requirements are there to protect the cable from someone accidentally drilling or nailing into it in future?

Holes for the cable need to be in the middle of the stud. That's the only protection needed.

How to Run Wires and Cables Around a Doorway : How-To : DIY Network

Link above? Must be the possibility of someone nailing in something there in the future by mistake?

Mod note: The method shown won't work for a correctly framed door. The door has a header above which prevents this. The cable must be run above the header.

That link also is assuming a very extra large rough opening for an improperly installed door with no shims between the jamb and stud. I believe I'd stay away from that website.

The recommended way is above the header, through the very short cripple studs.
Ideally, you would not even take this route, because you will run into some other problems, such as double studs at outside of door opening, or header goes all the way up to top plate.
It would be better to run cable up wall through stud cavity. Cut into ceiling near edge of wall. Run cable through ceiling across door and then back down.
Hardest part is drilling through double top plate. If you don't own a right angle drill, now would be the time to get one.
