Replacing a 2 gang switch box with a single gang switch box

I just bought a ceiling fan that is controlled with only one switch. I failed to realize the obvious at the time in that my previous ceiling fan has two switches. So I am faced with having an empty switch. So I can either do one of the following:

> I can change the switch box to a single switch unit. I have an original construction 80s style dark brown box in there. Do I have to cut a huge hole or is there an easier way to do this?

>I can buy a fan that is designed to go with two switches. Are these still made?

Thanks for your help

There is a 3rd choice. Buy a cover that has one blank & one switch cut out. I can't think of the name of them.

Remove one switch and use a double gang plate with one opening.

A filler jewel can fill in the second spot for a toggle.
