Garage Door Openers Trip GFI Outlet...High Amp options?

I have a rental home that the tenants complain that they frequently need to reset the GFI outlet. Is there a higher-amp GFI outlet available? I could replace the GFI with a normal outlet, but that might be a code violation.

GFCI s do not trip because of over amperage. Try replacing the GFCI receptacle. If the GDO continues to trip it is either the wiring or the GDO that is bad. Is the GDO plugged directly in to the receptacle that trips or is an extension cord used?

I'll try replacing it. It would be a low cost attempt to fix the problem.

As long as it is a ceiling mounted receptacle, would it even need GFCI protection?

Under most recent code, yes, but the actual GFCI protection would have to be in easy reach so the actual receptacle for the GDO non GFCI supplied by a GFCI breaker or receptacle or blank GFCI.

I believe it was the 2008 NEC that required all garage receptacles, including on the ceiling for GDO, to be GFCI protected.

The one caveat is that the gfi must be readily accessible. It cannot be ceiling mounted.
