grounded breaker popping

I bought a used frig. it worked for a few days, now it keep popping the 20a breaker. If I disconnect the ground, it then works fine. I even trued a completely different circuit and again it pops in a few seconds, but if I disconnect the 3rd wire ground, it then works fine.

ideas?

tks,
pa

The refrigerator has a short. It needs to be repaired or junked. It is unsafe to operate it in its present condition. Check the cord for signs of damage. Look inside the mechanical area for signs of frayed wiring. Unfortunately it may be a bad compressor and not worth fixing. It could also be mullion heaters shorted out. Try it on energy saver mode.

Now you know why it was discarded or traded in on a new one. I'd try to see if whomever you bought it from will take it back.

This could be something as simple as a cord or wire split open or rubbed bare on a sharp edge. Before completely junking it, I'd pop the back/bottom open and give the wiring a once-over to see if there's an obvious problem. If you don't find anything, then the compressor motor is probably junk.

6.6 and 2.7 ohms from hot and neutral (or neutral and hot) wires to frig metal case.

Sounds like a almost dead short.
