Basement renovation wiring

I am finishing my basement and have noticed that the utility room wiring goes from 12gauge 12/2 to 14 gauge 14/2. It comes into the room with the 12/2 but switches to 14/2 with twist caps and then runs to 2 lights and 2 sockets. I am not blowing any fuses but i am not sure what to finish the job i am doing with ( moving one of the sockets and adding one), and also not sure if this will cause a problem in the future?

Either the breaker must be changed to 15 amps or the #14 replaced with #12. To avoid confusion and prevent a future swap back to a 20 amp breaker by someone not knowing there is #14 on the circuit changing the #14 wire out is best.
