Are phone jacks really needed anymore?

Considering most families use cell phones and the internet is wireless, does a new home need as many phone jacks? What is the protocol these days? One for every room? Only where there may be a computer? Or maybe just in the Master Bedroom?

The protocol would be where ever you want them. Personally, I like having landline wiring and a landline phone. In the event of a major storm, cell towers are often down and/or the networks busy making a cell phone virtually useless, but it really boils down to personal preference.

The electrical code requires at least one phone jack.

ground question for wiring bare bulb light in basement

Hi I am putting some new bare bulb lights in unfinished area of basement (2 of them daisy chained together connected to a single wall switch). I was going to mount those blue plastic outlet boxes and attach a porcelain bare bulb base to each box. My question is-what am I supposed to do with the ground wire? The porcelain bulb base only has a hot and neutral terminal screw and obviously the blue plastic box has no ground screw. Does this set up need to be grounded? If not-what do I physically do with the ground wire in this set up? Thanks!Read More

Replacing pull chain switch on ceiling fan light

I replaced a ceiling fan pull chain switch but there is no "work box" area to make a junction. Is this an acceptable install? I was concerned about fan vibration causing the wire nuts to loosen over time. If so, is there anything I can do to minimize the vibration concern? If not, how should it be done?
