I have the exact same timer from Defiant (Part no. 1000 663 148) - it has Black, White, Blue, Green, Red wires on the timer switch. From the wall, I only have 3 wires coming out. 1. Black 2. White 3. Ground (bare copper) I don't believe I have neutral? I am only doing a Single Pole Installation Here is what happened (Swtich Color ---to--- Wall Color): 1. I tried hooking up Black ---to--- Black; White ---to--- White; Green ---to--- Ground: display comes on and I can hear the switch click inside but no power or very weak power is going towards the load (an exterior plug with a fluorescent light bulb). Red and Blue wires are not hooked up to anything. 2. I tried hooking up Black ---to--- Black; Blue ---to--- White; Green ---to--- Ground: nothing. Red and White wires are not hooked up to anything. 3. I tried hooking up Blue ---to--- Black; White ---to--- White; Green ---to--- Ground: nothing. Red and Black wires are not hooked up to anything. What am I doing wrong? I am going to see if other bulbs works better with combination #1 above. Instruction manual says I do not need Red as it is for 3-Way installation. I also know that Green is ground wire which it hooked up to the wiring box as ground. HELP! :(

I am re-doing my kitchen and have a 3 way switch that I would really like to relocate ....the only issue is that the wall I want it on is an old unused chimney covered in plaster. There is also an old steel pipe which most likely used to be for a gas light at the turn of the century...but is also not being used. It comes vertically down the middle of the wall (surrounded by 3/4" of plaster and then there's a right angle pipe fitting sticking out. I thought this would be a great way to run a 12/3 and 14/2 down from the ceiling and then using a low profile switch box, make my connection. I cut the top of the pipe at the ceiling and then taped the two wires together and rubbed a tiny bit of light purpose grease to get them fished down the pipe....it was a tight fit. Probably would have made sense to ask if this was a good idea before I started ! But, I want to make sure that this is ok to have the romex enclosed in a steel pipe like this before going any further.
