Wiring A Mini Split 12000 BTU A/C & Heat Pump?

Hi Guys,

Right now on the back section of my house (literally, the furthest point in the house from my breaker box), I only have a 15amp 110v circuit. I know that's not going to be enough to drive this A/C system which calls for a 230v connection. My questions is what gauge wire do I need?

I'm considering adding a junction box to run a few of the 110v outlets on the same line...just for lights and a fan...small stuff. Would that be an issue if I split a few of the 110v outlets off on this 230v line?

Thanks,

Jeff

The data plate on the unit will tell you both the minimum circuit ampacity which will tell you the wire size needed and also the maximum breaker size. Follow these.

Since the circuit is 240 volts it does not have a neutral. It should also remain dedicated to the split.

There also needs to be an unfused disconnect box on the outside of the house to connect it to with a water tight whip to the unit.

A general purpose GFI protected receptacle should also be within 25' and on the same level as the split unit.
