baseboard thermal protector coming on
Just moved a baseboard from one side of the room to the other. Extended the wire with a junction box and added a digital thermostat.
After about 10 mins of heating, the thermostat shows 'tp' meaning it recognised that the heater activated it's thermal protection.
Anything I can do to test what is wrong?

If the safety stat is activating it would mean the baseboard would have to be pretty hot.
What could cause the safety stat to open......
1) Running a 120v heater on 240v.
2) Baseboard is covered, like with a curtain.
3) The element is going bad and creating a hotspot. This would have to be felt for.

Any chance a loose wire could cause it?
There's nothing covering it. Only thing I can think of is to buy a new one and try it out.

The thermostat apparently knows when the heater line is open so yes.... it could be a loose connection but you said it happens at 10 minutes which doesn't point to a loose connection.
