Getting Wire Past Crown Molding

Hello, I'm running wire up the wall then to a ceiling light location. When I've done this before, I notched the wall top plate, then made a hole to the ceiling location. But this time crown molding is in the way of that. What's the best way to proceed?

Thanks!

Do you mean inside the wall? Use a flexible drill bit to drill into the center of the top plate.

Thanks! Yes inside the wall. I guess I've got to make a large enough hole below the crown to get drill and bit through the plate?

Or a flexible drill bit. Cut the opening for the switch box and use it to drill the hole using a flexible drill bit.

Another method if no unfinished attic above and the floor of the second floor is just plain plywood cover with carpet is to peal back the carpet and cut a hole for drilling and then patch and put the carpet back.
