Ceiling octagonal box small knockouts, how to seal.

How does one seal the small, 3/8th inch knockouts in metal octagonal ceiling fixture boxes (the ones that have the clamps)? I've looked for seals and the smallest is 1/2inch trade size, which is actually close to an inch and is too large for the smaller knockout. Are the internal Romex wire clamps, if tightened without a wire in them, considered adequate to seal the knockout?

I am not a pro, so don't know if sealing such small holes is necessary or how best to do it, but I'd consider using metal duct tape.

The hickeys inside the box have an occlusive tab, that when tightened will serve as a closure for the hole. If the hole is independent, then they will be larger and a normal plug can be inserted.

Is the internal clamp the hickey? It has a tab as you described which covers the hole when the screw is tightened, though the hole isn't covered completely, but it sounds like tightening the screw would provide adequate coverage.

Yes. You don't have a hermetic seal, but it serves the purpose of keeping things out and wires in.

Thanks. I was worried I'd have to replace the box.
