DoorBell Wiring
Just bought a new home and want to replace the existing door bell. The old door bell had 2 transformer wires, red, attached to two different screws, this existing unit had an accommodation for 2 transformer wires. Two white wires were attached to the front door screw. I moved one white wire to the back door screw, and still nothing from the back door. I moved to the side door screw, and still nothing. Front door still worked. I have since tried several combinations, and nothing really worked for the back door. Before I moved wires around, I found turning appliances on and off did cause the door chime to ring.
what could be going on here?

Send a pic of the chime unit, there should be 3 cables there, one from front door and one from back door and the third should be from the transformer.

If you have a two wire cable for power and a two wire cable for front door..... then you have no rear door wiring.

Wiring
The backdoor button has wires. I disconnected the old button and replaced it. One of the wiring combinations gave me a 1 bell out of 2 ringing. In other words I did not get the full two note ring for the back door.
I can probably get link to the wiring schematics of the unit, a s I found it and tried to rewire the unit so it worked.

Wiring Schematics
Here is the link to the unit and how I was able to figure out what was a transformer and what was a door connection:
http://www.lamson-home.com/ProductSu...5E_im_0408.pdf

Originally connected by previous owner, 1 red wire went to connection 1 and a second red wire went to connection 5.
Two white wires were connected to connection 2, the front door, which explains why the back door never rang.
However, moving one white wire to connection 3 still did not allow the back door to ring. It only when I disconnected transformer 5 connection that I got a half two not ring and nothing from the front.
This is driving my crazy.

You should have a red and white to front and back doors, you should also have red and white from transformer.
red from transformer to terminal 1
white from transformer to term. 5 along with whites going to the doors
Red from front door to term 2
Red from back to door to term 3

I tried to understand what you have written but am having trouble so I will ask questions and we will build from there.
- Do you have two wire from the transformer at the chime?
- Do you have two wires from each of the chime buttons at the chime.

With reference to your post # 6, you are supposed to get two tones for the front door, and one tone for the rear door. That's how you know which door your guests are at.
