Troubleshooting an AF-1000 intercom

I wonder if anyone can help troubleshoot a Pacific Electric AF-1000 intercom system.

The system has stations in 6 apartments, with a buzzer-controlled outside entrance.

Visitors at the outside entrance can ring apartments OK, and residents can buzz open the entrance OK. The outside letter-carrier buzz control also works OK.

But the talk and listen functions stopped working a few months ago.

Any ideas on how to start troubleshooting?

Welcome to the forums.

Since the power supply in the AF unit is working and signaling is working.... I'd start at the lobby door speaker. Substitute another speaker for it or check it for continuity with an ohmmeter. It should measure between 10-50 ohms.

Thanks, Pete.

If I test the resistance across the original speaker, should I first disconnect it?

I found that the speaker has zero impedance across the leads, so I'm fixin' to replace it.

Can anyone recommend a supplier of weather-resistant intercom speakers? (I prefer to buy local, but that retail ship has sailed.)
