Quick Distance Measurement question

When measuring the distance between a distro panel and a sub panel (to calculate correct gauge), is it measured as the crow flies or actual footage of run?

Thanks much.

I assume by "calculating the correct gauge" you are referring for voltage drop as the amps would dictate the wire size. Voltage drop is not that exact so just a measurement of the route the wire will be run is good enough.

Use your calculated load to figure voltage drop, not the rating of your overcurrent device. If there is no load, there is no voltage drop.
