Charger for NiMH battery

I have a model airplane that takes 8.4V 600mAh Ni-MH battery, but no charger. Other than ordering a new charger for $30 just to test if the plane works, could I rig a NiMH Energizer battery charger? It takes upto 4 aaa/aa/c/d type and up to 2 9v batteries.

In a pinch, any DC power supply that puts out a little more voltage then the battery is rated for will charge the battery. (IE: slightly more than 8.4 like 8.5-9vdc) The biggest issue is how long it will take to charge, and the risk of over charging it. "Real" chargers have special circuitry to shut themselves off to prevent over charging.

Just to test if it works I don't see why you couldn't use a regular 9 volt battery rigged up to the plug for a short time.
