Question

I am replacing several 3way switches. The originals have two brass posts and one copper post. Is this copper post considered the common? Any information would be helful and greatly appreciated!

Yes, various switch manufacturers do it differently. But if you see two screws alike and one different, the different one is the common. Some have all three screws the same, but label one of them "COM" or "COMMON" (if you've got a magnifying glass to look at them).
