Nutone Dial Control - what is this?

I am remodeling my condo. I have this Nutone dial control on the wall by my front door. I have no idea what it does. Anyone have any ideas? If it doesn't do anything, I'd like to just remove it entirely and drywall over it. Is this heating related? Because I also have one that says Intertherm, and matches the baseboard heaters that I've already removed.

Good question. I suggest calling NuTone's toll free number (Google it) and see if anyone can identify it. The Scovill name dates it to the early 1970's. I worked there once upon a time, but that switch does not register.

I might be wrong, but I suspect it is for an intercom system, perhaps to the front door of the building. Pretty sure it is not related with the heat.

That's an old wind up timer. "Holding" is an on position where the timer won't shut it off.

There should be two wires on the back. You'd want to remove them, put on wire nuts and cover with a blank plate. There may be 120v still present there.
