light switch makes 'short' sound and works inconsistently

When I go to turn on the bathroom light it always has a quick 'short' / static type sound and sometimes I have to keep fiddling with the switch to get the light to stay on.

Does this sound like some obvious problem that I could fix/replace?

Thanks again folks.

This is in a 2004 built house in Boston, MA USA.

Yeah sounds like you just need to replace the switch. At least take it out and check the connections, maybe a wire is loose. An easy fix. Shut the breaker off first (obviously).

Probably bad contacts. Replace the switch. If it is a 3-way switch be sure to mark the common.

Tip: Use the screws not the backstabs to connect the wires. Backstabs can be less reliable.

My wife found something similar in our guest bathroom a couple of years ago, so I tried it, and sure enough, sometimes it turned on, sometimes it didn't, and there was a little "bzzz" when it was switched. Hmm, oh well, I pulled it out, everything looked fine, so put in a new switch. Started to toss the old one in the trash, but must have been a slow day because I took it to the shop instead, drilled the rivets out, and peaked inside. Doggone earwig had crawled in there and was toasted in the contacts.
