Nema 14-50R to 6-50R

I have a 50AMP breaker connected to a 14-50R with a copper 6awg 4 wire.

Can I just disconnect the Neutral and put in a 6-50R Socket instead? (It's in a 4x4 box, I would have to just swap the socket)

Thanks!
