GFCI tamper proof install
I have a series of receptacles in the garage. I am replacing the lead receptacle with the tamper proof gfci. The circuit worked before but now as soon as I put a load on the new tamper proof gfci the gfci kicks off & I cannot reset it. I have tried using another new tamper proof gfci & same thing happens. Please send me your help, this is for my husband. Thanks

Disconnect any conductors that are connected to the load side of the GFCI and see if it resets.

Metal box? 100% sure none of the screws or bare wiring is touching the box?
There's two sides to a GFI outlet.
Look right on the back of the outlet, should say line and load.
Line is the incoming power, load is any outlets down line.
What load are you trying to plug in?

Original circuit in series of 3 receptacle outlets, no gfci.
Wire is armoured bx cable in metal boxes.
12 gauge wire, 20 amp circuit
All working up till husband pulled first receptacle out of series to be replaced by tamper proof gfci.
The line side Ground wire was short in length so husband pulled on the line ground & got about an inch more wire. He pigtailed the 3 grounds together to connect to new gfci receptacle & installed a new
tamper proof gfci. Just hooking into line side the new gfci worked & he got power to portable fan.
When he hooked up load side for other 2 receptacles in series with new tamper proof gfci the gfci tripped. Husband could not reset at all. When husband disconnects load side & disconnected gfci from line power & reconnected gfci to line power gfci would work again. Husband replaced original new gfci with another new gfci (all tamper proof), and same results. Husband pulled electrical plate off electric panel to make sure circuit is connected properly & it was or is and it never tripped circuit breaker. Only thing different between new gfci replacing old receptacle was husband pulling a little bit of ground wire from line side to get enough wire to make a pigtail on ground side. Testing of the gfci has been done with the receptacle pulled out of metal boxes. No shorts & 120 on hot line side coming in, this is the whole story what do you think? Appreciate your help on this he is stumped!

Sounds like there is an issue downstream of the gfi. Since you only have two receptacles to check it should not be hard to locate the issue. Make sure nothing is plugged in when testing.
