Adding light to existing line
I need to add a light fixture to an existing line. I have found where someone had spliced the line. It appears to be in the middle of two other lights. They did not put the splice in a junction box. First question shouldn't this have been put in a box? Second, can I go off this splice? If so I know this probably sounds stupid but how would I wire this? One line to the new light switch or does it need to be looped back to the splice. Thanks for your help.

Do you want to add a fixture to an existing circuit or do you want to add a new switch and light ?
If the splice you found is in between two light fixtures, it should be in a metal junction box and whatever you connect there will be switched by the same switch that controls those two lights.
Is this part of the same circuit you posted about previously ? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...ml#post1733157
