Adding second fixture to garage soffit lighting-end of run
I have a security light in the center of the garage soffit. I'd like to remove this and end up with two outdoor rated recessed fixtures, 1 near each end of the soffit.
The security light is at the end of a 3-way system; the 3-strand wire comes into the switch box in the garage and a 2-strand goes out to the security light.
I would prefer to fill the hole that will be left when I remove the security light.
What is the best way to run the new wires? Do I mount a sealed box inside the garage, run the existing 2-strand wire into it, then wirenut 3 blacks and 3 whites within the sealed box and send a white and a black to each of the two new fixtures? I would rather run from this location so that I don't have to cut the existing feeding wire. I would rather have it continue to terminate in the middle of the garage to allow for future changes.
If I must run the 2-strand wire from the switch directly to the first new fixture and then to the second new fixture, how do the black and wires go to the first and second fixtures?
Thanks,
Gary

Rerouting that existing fixture cable into a splice box in the garage is ideal. Then just run a piece of two wire with ground to each light. If you use a metal splice box be sure to connect the ground wire to it. Otherwise a plastic splice box will also suffice.
Make sure you have access to the box for future servicing.
