Wall Box/Switch/Ceiling Fan/Electrical Wires
My 2 year old starting moving this dial around and all of a sudden it started to smell like wires were burning. There are small vents on the top and small puffs of smoke started to rise out of the top. I shut off the breaker that controls this room and it stopped. We recently had his room painted and the box is pretty stuck on there. Is this something I need to worry about? The box wasn't hot, but the smell from the box was horrible. How do I fix this--see attached pic.

You have to remove the box so you can see what happened. Spinning the dial shouldn't have caused a short. Try to remove the cover to see how it's mounted. If that doesn't work, cut around the box with a utility knife. Then try to get a screwdriver behind it.
