It seems that electrical outlets that are downstream from GFCI protection are supposed to be labeled as such, and that if an outlet is GFCI protected but has no ground wire, there is supposed to be a label to that effect on the outlet cover as well. Is that right? And if so, are there labels for that purpose printed up or how is the labeling best accomplished? Also, suppose you have some outlets that all lack a ground wire. Can you use one GFCI upstream of all those outlets and install three prong outlets and a label for outlets downstream of those outlets, or does each such outlet need its own GFCI? I do read the NEC, but it's hard to parse stuff like this out correctly. Thanks for any help!

I am completely rewiring my house, so I followed the standard advice and got [I]Wiring Simplified[/I]. I have read it through and still have a few questions. 1. I know that I need to staple the cable to the stud as it runs down a wall. I am also running through a couple studs to a new duplex outlet. The new outlet is only a couple inches from where the cable comes through the stud. Is this considered secured, or do I need to still staple it some how? 2. The book tells me that I can reidentify white as black to a switch, then later tells me that I should have a free white at a switch if possible. The only place I have a problem with that is on a three-way switch. Do I need to go back and redo it with 4 wire cable? 3. All of the old wiring runs through the attic and crosses it in several directions, without protection. I saw in a post on here that I can run cable straight across the trusses, but the book tells me that I need to put 1x2s or some other form of protection for the cable, even in the attic. Which of these is correct, or more likely, how am I misinterpreting what I read? I think that is all of my concerns, for now. Thanks for the help.
