Adding another light but what about the red wire?

Hi,

I've used this forum a bunch and love it and have now registered as a user.

My questions is regarding the addition of a new light on the same circuit as the existing light. At the moment I have a chandelier that is wired as follows.....
The black wire form the light to the red wire in the ceiling. The white to white and the ground to ground to box. The other black in the ceiling has just got a wire nut and e tape on it.

If I wanted to add another light on the same line so they both go on together, do I just use a wire nut and connect a new line as follows? Existing red/black connection to NEW 14/2 black, white to white and ground to ground. Then run that over to my new attic box and just connect the new light black to black, white to white and ground to ground to box? This is at my moms house and I recall there being two switches that both work the same light if that makes a difference.

I hope this makes sense.

Welcome to the forum! Your plan to add the additional light is correct.

That's great! Thank's for the quick reply. Out of curiosity, what is the unused black wire for that I put the nut on originally?

It is probably a constant hot wire that could be used with a ceiling fan for example.
