tripp lite ls-604 line conditioner
this is a small 5 amp line conditioner and spike protector . . . question is
Do these use appreciable current without any loads connected. That would be magnetizing current or whatever. Label says 5 A input????

That (and almost all other electronics) use a small amount of power in standby mode. It is probably on the order of a watt or two (0.01 A). When it is actively conditioning power, it will have an efficiency rate of somewhere around 90%.
