Decorative Box Covers

Do they make decorative blank box covers for a 4" steel box? I have found numerous versions of flat steel plates but I am looking for something that looks like those plastic covers over your standard outlet/switch plate but with the screws in position to screw directly into a 4" box.

The cover will be exposed on a finished wall and although it will be hidden behind furniture I am looking to dress it up over a painted steel plate.

I've never seen any fancy or painted 4" (1900) cover unless it was painted locally.

I'd just clean the steel cover and paint it with the wall paint.

Is there a plaster ring on the box? If so, a standard blank plate can be used.

Here's a link to some blank plates. Do a search for "blank" within the site (top left search box)

I didn't see any artistic plates, but plenty of nice metal finishes.

Wallplate Warehouse

I seriously doubt you will find a decorative plate with holes to fit a junction box.
If you install a mud ring, you can also choose from any 2-gang decorative wall plate, such as a double switch plate, and fill the switch holes with blanks.

If a single gang plaster ring is used a standard blank plate could be used.

Arlington Industries makes a blank round plastic paintable ceiling cover that may fit over a 4" square box. It comes with a bracket that has many mounting options. If not you could probably fabricate a mount for it using a flat metal cover as a base.

I am looking for something to cover this

Raco 4-11/16 in. x 4 in. Square Adapter Ring, 5/8 in. Raised (25-Pack)-855 - The Home Depot

The distance between screws is 4 3/4" which corresponds to the screws on blank plate for a 4" j box.

Raco 4 in. Flat Blank Square Electrical Box Cover-8752 - The Home Depot

ibpooks link sent me looking and I found this

Hubbell LPB3400 Flat Blank 5-Inch Round Standard Metallic Wallplate, White - - Amazon.com

which had me hoping except the screw holes are 3.5" apart. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

Might have to settle for the flat plate and try too make it looks as best as possible.

Thanks all for the good suggestions, I found the second one PJ displayed and it looks like it'll work.

Webb Manufacturing 838 Blank Cover; 6 Inch, Metallic, For Ceiling Box - Crescent Electric Supply Company

So now for the question of the code. Is it legit to use a metal blank plate like this to cover a 4" j box. It looks like it has about a 1/4" set off from the wall and so there would be a gap between the j box and the cover. A fix would be to cover the box with a standard blank plate meant for that, then attach this cover to the blank plate underneath. I'm not sure if code requires the cover plate to be flush against the j box.

Again, the whole idea is to make the finished wall look nice. Simply putting a square blank plate by itself I would have the issue of the cut drywall being visible around the edges.

Thanks!

A metal blank over a metal box is to code.

They make plaster rings for that size box that will fit a standard plate.
