Breaker size

Good day,

I have a 400kw, 230V, 3 phase Air cooled Chiller. What size of breaker should i use? I come up with too large numbers. Can you show me how you come up with your answer if you have?

There should be an ID plate on the unit listing all the specs.

You're talking about a HUGE load. You cannot guess at the breaker size. The equipment manufacturer specifies the requirements.

As a basic answer... 400,000w / 230v = 1740 amps / 3ph = 580amps.
This is just a rough estimate. Based on powering a chiller.... you'd need approx a 700A breaker.

It's extremely rare to find this large of a chiller operating on 230v.
Power in your area.... Single phase 115/230 3-phase 240/480 60hz.
