exterior gfci outlet clicking & rattling when turned on

Exterior switch controlled 2 outlet covered GFCI. GFCI outlet started rattling when I turned in on today.

It's been raining the past couple days, but nothing was plugged in to the outlet until today and the box has been covered with a plastic outlet cover.

If it started buzzing.... it's gotten wet and is ready to trip.

Buzzing is a better description. I will keep it switched off until I can determine where water got in.

Thanks.

Two other possibilities:

- Defective GFCI.

- Insects got into the GFCI. One time I found one loaded with dead roaches.
