pigtails and 12ga wires

hello all

while i feel comfortable doing basic wiring i always find 3 or 4 12 gauge wire pigtails a bit challenging. my technique for a 3 wire pigtail is to strip about 1.5" of insulation, hold the base and twist with lineman pliers and than trim to the correct length for a red nut.

any tips for the best technique to avoid the middle wire staying stationary while twisting

thanks

This is an age old debate. You might want to do some test connections with scrap, not pre-twisting.

Personally, the only time I pre-twist is when I am adding a stranded wire to this type of connection. I pre-twist the 3 or 4 wires first, then wire nut with the stranded, treating it like 2 wires.
