Question about wiring 120 volt outlets
Hey all i just joined up and i have a question.
I get the general idea on how to wire 120 volt outlets in series but what i want to do is a bit different. Instead of connecting to the house power i want these outlets only powered by a generator or inverter. The beginning of the circuit would have a male plug that would go into the genny/inverter.
Now to the question: What do i do with what i believe is the ground wire? In this image the wire in question is the green one.

Welcome to the forums! Does your generator have receptacles on it to begin with? Are these receptacles separate from your house system? They cannot be connected to a generator while connected to house power without a lock out method to prevent back feeding the grid. What brand/style generator do you have?

Thanks for the welcome!
Sorry thought i had covered all the bases for information needed. Yes there is one outlet on the genny and yes this set up would be completely separate from household power. If the genny or inverter are not plugged into the male end of the circuit, these outlets would be dead, no power at all.

You would wire the ground the same as normal.
How are you going to connect between the generator and the house wiring?

A point of clarification. The diagram in the attachment show the outlets connected to the source in parallel, not in series as stated in the diagram.

PcBoss,
I won't be connected to the garage wiring at all. The whole wiring setup will be on its own along one wall that has no other outlets.
Beelzebob,
That's good to know. Other than if one outlet dies it takes them all with them is there a particluar reason to choose paralled or series?
On edit: So i think i have a better understanding now. The picture made it look like there were separate grounds for each outlet which was throwing me off. Thanks to those that took the time to respond to the silly question i had. I'll post again when i get it wired up to show what i was talking about.

Series wiring is like the old Christmas lights where if one bulb went out the string dies. House wiring is more correctly called series-parallel.
There must be some sort of interconnect between the generator and the garage receptacles. How are you planning to connect them?
