switches for a ceiling fan
#1
I recently installed a ceiling fan, however I am unhappy with having to use the chains to the fan or the light off. My wall has a single switch. Are there any wall switches available that I can just swap in the single switch space so that I can separately control the light and fan??

In the traditional sense, you have no options. The problem is that multiple switches do no good without multiple wires from your switch to the ceiling.
But you really have some choices:
(1) Install an extra wire from the switch to the ceiling, and install an extra switch to run it.
(2) For less than $20, they sell these (somewhat goofy) electronic gizmos that you can install in the ceiling box. If you simply turn the switch on, the light comes on. If you turn the switch on-off-on, the fan comes on. If you turn it on-off-on-off-on, they both come on.
(3) You can buy a kit to retrofit your fan/light with a remote control.
