what is proper AWG

Question what is proper AWG

I am will be running wire from my Circuit box to my well and also from my back up generator. the distance is about 50 feet to the well from both locations. it is 220v Will 12-3 AWG work or do I need to go with 10-3 AWG.

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like your are just connecting the well to house power or the generator.

The wire size(gauge) you run is dictated by the current draw of the pump. If your 240v well is currently connected to a two pole 20A circuit breaker then you need to run at least #12. If there is doubt as to what size the pump is or what it draws..... opt for the next larger size... #10.

There needs to be some sort of interlock to prevent two sources of power at the well.
