Ceiling fan wall switch question

Hello,

I'm in NE Wisconsin and am putting a new ceiling fan in our bedroom. The new fan comes with a special wall controller. I'm not sure of how to put the new controller in. Here is a picture of the existing switch with one red and one black plugged into the switch and a ground and black (kind of painted white) on the bottom screws:

The new controller has one black to go to the fan (I know I should connect the red to that) and one black that goes to load. I don't know what to do with the two black wires connected to the existing switch. Do both go to to the load, or do I just cap one off? I just want to be sure I do this right so I don't short circuit anything or burn the house down... Here's a picture of the new controller:

Thank you VERY much for your help!!

Welcome to the forums.

Turn off the circuit.
Remove both black wires from the switch, connect them together and attach them to one of the fan control black wires. Cap off with a wire nut.
Connect the red wire from the switch to the other fan control black wire. Cap off with wire nut.
Connect the green wire to the bare copper wire in the box.
