Ceiling Light Fixture Foil & Insulation

Hello,

When removing a bulb that needed changing, I noticed the foil backing was damaged and pulling away from the fixture. I removed it. I plan to replace the 2 60W incandescents with LEDs. Do I need to replace the foil? Is it a special type? Thanks.

It should not be removed from the fixture.

Ok, but now that it has (most of it peeled away with the burned out incandescent) what is my next move? Can that material be purchased anywhere? Thanks

I would just add fiberglass insulation above the fixture. It is non combustible.

If you don't have any insulation you could buy the smallest amount of duct insulation you can find. Example: 6 in. Dia R-6 Ductwork Insulation Sleeve-INSLV6 - The Home Depot

Thank you for the suggestion. There is a thin disc of fiberglass-like material that was behind that thin foil layer. Would I put this insulation on top of that?

The fiberglass goes above the reflective foil.
