Help with 240 thermostat

Would appreciate some help - trying to install a new double pole 240 baseboard heater thermostat and can't quite figure out the extra set of wires. I did the same thing in the other room but there were only 2 wires - supply coming in and then other out to heater. This has 2 extra red wires....guessing those are to baseboard heater and the reason for the other is that it continues on to "downstream" baseboard heater. Sorry for picture - a bit hard to see, but white and black wires from romex 12/3 are connect to each other (white - white, black - black) with grounds connected as well. thanks in advance...

Welcome to the forums.

Junction boxes are wired with cable. There are wires inside a cable.

So in that box...there are 2) three wire cables with white to white, black to black and reds capped off. We don't discuss grounds as they are understood.

So where was the old thermostat ?

Bought the house and thermostat wasn't attached. Ok-get the distinction of wires vs cables, thanks. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

If that wiring goes to a piece of electric baseboard..... what previously controlled the temperature ?

What I'm trying to figure out is if that wiring is only for that heater or does it come from a thermostat in another room.
