Cable
Member location is UK.
I'm wiring in the underfloor heating and the power cable to the heating is a 2 core but with a metal braid around the neutral and live (underneath the outer plastic sheath). What is this metal braid for? Is it effectively the earth (and so I connect it to the earth from the supply) or do I just cut it back out of the way?

Welcome to the forums! Your profile is not complete so we don't know where you are located. Terminology differs from country to country. Let us know where you are located and post a picture of the cabling so we can see what you see.http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

The metal braid needs to be connected to ground (earth). You can open it up by bunching it up the cable, like a Chinese finger gripper, and pulling the wires through about 6" or so from the end. Then pull on the braid to make it tight and connect it to your ground.
