3 black into switch, 3 white bundled together, hooking new three way switch.

Hello,

http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...k-wires.html#b

This old thread helps me halfway. I have a dimmer I got for free and want to use. I want to use it in a single pole configuration, but it's a three way switch. There is one black wire and two red wires coming from it. I tried pigtailing the black from the switch to the 3 blacks, and I pig tailed a single red to the bundle of whites. This turned on the light but the switch doesn't work at all. No dim, no off. Now I'm stumped.

Best guess:
  • One house black is power in.
  • One house black is power out to another device.
  • One house black is power out to the light.
  • Connect house black power in and power out to another device to switch black.
  • One red goes to house black to light.
  • You will have to guess which switch red to use if no marking on the switch.
