Circuit for Smokes?

Another question; building my own home. Doing my own electrical. I know the smokes need to be on an AFCI. But do they have to be on a dedicated circuit? Or can I add something such as a pantry light so I will always know soon if the smoke circuit has tripped.
Thanks. Jim in Tennessee

The NEC allows other things on the circuit serving the smoke alarms. Local amendments may prohibit it. You will need to check with your local building officials.
