The last time I changed the bulbs in in front porch light, it worked for several days and then went out. Replacing with new bulbs does not help.

Replace that bulb with a screw in adapter flourescent bulb that you should be able to find even at walmart. The wattage will sound smaller but the light output should equal the light bulb you have been using. Cost is much more than a regular bulb but life expectancy would be way much longer. You may have trouble using this type adapter flourescent bulb in the winter time, not sure.

porch light fix
Hi Dianne. With the circuit breaker open or the fuse removed for the circuit the porch light is on, remove the bulb. Look at the very bottom of the socket and you should see a brass or copper coloured contact. If it is bent down flat to the socket base try to pry is up just a little. If it is missing you can either get a replacement socket to fit the fixture or get a new fixture. If you can pry it up a little you should be able to replace the bulb, turn on the power and have the light working. Please, if you remove the fixture to replace it or the socket, just take apart the two wires that go to the fixture with wire nuts. DO NOT disconnect any other wires that are wire-nutted together in the box.
