wiring irrigation pump

Currently have a Goulds GT 15 installed with 12 gauge UF cable with 20 amp double pole GFCI breaker.

Would like to replace the GT 15 with GT 20 and still use the same electrical set-up.

The Goulds literature states the GT 15 has full load of 10 amps at 230 and uses a 20 amp breaker. The GT 20 has full load of 13.9 amps at 230 and literature states 25 amp breaker.

Can I replace the GT 15 with a GT 20 without changing the breaker or the underground feeder? The full load amps (13.9) are below the 20 amp breaker currently installed.

Thanks for the assistance.

You can try the 20A circuit. The worst to happen is the breaker trips on start up. If it doesn't trip then you're good to go. If this is dedicated to the pump and is hardwired then you can push the breaker to a 25A if needed without changing the wire.

Thanks for the reply.

That was my plan. I wanted to make sure that the increase to a 25amp breaker was safe with the 12 gauge wire. I am finding from your reply and other searches that dedicated motor circuits have different rules and the 12 gauge wire is safe on the 25 amp breaker.
