Wiring basement shop lights
I have a 14/2 line coming off my service panel in the basement which serves 3 pull chain incandescent bulbs and a 5 outlets in the basement I would like to put up 4 shop lights controlled by a switch. I am thinking of tapping off this line before the first light and going to a new switch followed by the wiring for the 4 shop lights. does this seem reasonable and/or appropriate? Is there a better way of doing this?

Yes that is okay but you might consider putting the receptacles on a 20 amp dedicated circuit if you ever use any power tools.
I'd also suggest if you keep the receptacles on the 14 amp circuit you use LED shop lights. Less amps more reliability because no cheap Asian made ballasts to go bad.
