How can I repair a cut wire?
Hi, while a house I have was vacant with the power off, someone broke in the garage and cleanly cut an electric wire, 14 gauge hot neutral and ground. We think they were interrupted before they could steal it for the copper, or just lost interest after the first cut.
What would be the best way to repair the wire? I dont have any slack to join the wires and put them in a single junction box. My only idea would be to cut the wire a distance away and then add a longer piece of wire with a junction box at each end of the new wire.
Is there a better, easier way? Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.

You can try one of these Tyco NM splices. I don't believe much, if any slack is needed.

Or you can use only one box; take one end back to the next stud, install a box, and you only have one end to replace.
