Dimmer switch to Smart Switch

Hey y'all. Just have a question about upgrading a single pole dimmer switch to a Leviton Smart Switch. Our house was built in 2006 just for reference.

The new switch calls for a neutral. When I pulled the dimmer out of the wall, it had 2 black wires and a ground attached. All the whites were bundled. So that would mean the old dimmer had the hot wire, lead and ground, right? There are 3 sets of romex wires inside the switch box. So there are a total of 3 whites bundled. Would you just pigtail another white from that bundle to connect the new smart switch? I can only assume that the other set of wires is going to another outlet.

Welcome to the forums.

That would be hot wire, the load wire and ground.

If your smart switch requires a neutral then you will have to identify the hot and load connections currently on the dimmer. You can add a short piece of white to the neutrals.

Correct. I have tested the wires off the dimmer and I've marked the hot, and lead, which would go into the new switch but it was seeing all the whites bundled that threw me off and didn't know if adding a short piece of white was the method.
