several circuits intermittent outages

soo... we have 6 or 7 (of 35) circuits in our house that are intermittently going out. they're not on the same side of the main panel, and even one circuit on our garage subpanel (detached garage) goes out. all at the same time. they're not adjacent. they go out for a few minutes, to a few hours, and come back. it's been doing this for a few days now, and we're stumped. what is the likely problem?

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like you are losing one of the hot legs. When you look at the panel...... the breakers should be labeled.............
1 - A - 2
3 - B - 4
5 - A - 6
7 - B - 8
9 - A - 10
11- B - 12
etc.
Check and see if your problem circuits are on the A or B leg. If yes.... you need to determine where the leg is being lost. Do you have any 240v appliances..... if so.... do they work ?

additionally, one circuit is on a separate sub-panel, in a separate structure.. with a 240v power run to it. and all go out simultaneously. we have an electric tankless water heater on the right leg... with three double breakers... which works. actually, the power came back on when i put a load on our tankless water heater...
it's possible you're right. ill go look
