electric in existing walls?

I have an unfinished basement. I want to pull an electric line from the main breaker, to a closet on my main floor. I can pull it through the floor joists fine, but am curious about in the wall in the closet. I need to nail the wire to the stud every 4 feet correct? and if so how do I do that in a finished wall? or do I just need to make sure to put the jack within 4' of the floor so I can nail it to the stud within 6" of the box?

Fished cables are exempt from the need to be secured in the wall. They only get secured where accessible.
