Woods timer: if wired backwards
I have a mess in my box as well. The switch I am replacing is wired by taking a black wire and cutting it, then sticking the switch in line. If I goof and connect the woods timer backwards, load to black and line supply to blue, what happens? I have to have line power to the black to power the electronics, correct? I understand that the timer should not work. But would reversing line and load connections cause damage to the electronics with the line supply connected to the output from the timer's switch?

Welcome to the forums.
I moved you to your own thread as the one you posted in was extremely long and complicated.
You have a basic single pole application. Usually a timer that is designed for that application only has two wires and usually black. Connecting a two wire timer backwards won't hurt it.
Are you sure you are using a timer that states "no neutral" or does not have a white wire ? Does it use a battery ?
You could always post the model number from the switch for more detailed help.

I have this Woods digital electronic timer as shown in the thread. so it needs power for the electronics and the electronics switches the supply line on and off to the load. If I mistakenly wire the load to the line supply and line input to the load, can I damage anything?
