Outdoor GFCI outlets are not working

Hello,
I recently bought a house with no GFCI outlets outdoor or in the bathrooms. The regular outlets (without a test button) work fine. I switched out the bathroom outlet with a GFCI outlet and it works. But, both outdoor outlets are not working when I installed a GFCI outlet. I put back in regular outlets outside and they work again, switch them back to GFCI outlets and neither work. I've pressed the reset button, nothing is tripped.
Why would both outdoor outlets not work when I put in GFCI outlets?

Likely you have something miswired. IS the outside receptacles wired off the bathroom? Is there more then 3 wires in each box? Are you wiring the the power coming into each box to the LINE side of the GFCI?

One outdoor outlet is only 2 wires - line hot and white. The 2nd outdoor outlet has 4 wires (line, load, 2 white). Yes, the power coming into the box is on the Line side of the GFCI.

If you only have two wires then test button will not work as they use the ground wire to create the imbalance between the hot and neutral required to test the device. If you have a metallic wiring method (EMT conduit/MC/AC cable) you should connect a grounding pigtail from the device to the metal box.

Does things work when you plug them in to the new gfci's?
