generac 12000 watt propane generator runs down battery
I install new battery and within a few days or a week it is dead or dying. Another question, can you jump a Generac off if battery is completely dead? Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums.
Is this a standalone generator or permanently installed with an automatic transfer switch ?
A model number would be helpful.

Is it a portable generator?
If so, only thing the battery is powering is a start motor. Check if there is any current draw by connecting a multimeter in DC current mode in series.
The process is same as an automotive battery, except it should read 0 current.

If there is no current draw, either your battery is bad or the charger is not properly charging the battery.
Many portable generator don't charge starting battery and must be charged through a 120V wall charger.
If it is a standby generator, the battery will also run a automatic transfer switch circuits and usually have a permanent standby charger wired to the battery. Check if your charger is working. This charger is usually fused in a transfer switch.
You may jump start your battery so long as the voltage matches. Most are 12V, so you can jump off a car battery. If your generator doesn't have a charging mechanism, your battery still won't be charged.
If it is a portable generator, you can pull start instead.

Sorry you had to remove my link. Ziller Electric runs an excellent forum open to all for Generac issues. Many private individuals including DIYers, dealers and electricians participate - most not Ziller Electric customers.
